Google recently presented an interface update of “Google Assistant” for Android. The new superstructure is called Snapshot. Thanks to Snapshot, not only transcribed dialogues appear in the voice assistant window but also a selection of other useful information. This will include weather reports for the area where the user is located, a list of scheduled meetings from the calendar, reminders, notes, interesting events that are taking place nearby, and much more. All information will be updated in real-time, taking into account any changes that occur.
Snapshot is largely a pretty pass through an update, which in no way extends the capabilities of Google Assistant, but only aggregates the information it already provides access to. In fact, the Google solution to display it is quite useful. It brings the assistant closer to being your personal assistant or personal secretary, always on alert with a list of actual data.
How to use Google Assistant?
I’ll use an example to explain. I often ask the Google Assistant about the weather. I don’t have any special weather apps on my smartphone like some people do, so I ask my assistant to give me the weather forecast each day. It’s actually faster than opening Yandex, for example, and going to the weather section. Thanks to the update, you don’t even have to say the request out loud, just call for the assistant and look at the screen: the necessary information will appear there automatically.
The content of Snapshot is customizable and changes according to your preferences. Let’s say you don’t want to see events and activities taking place nearby in Google Assistant but want, for example, to keep track of birthdays of friends and colleagues at work. So, just put a calendar block on the screen to see it. Moreover, if you wish, you can disable all these prompts and use the assistant as a voice assistant answering questions, and nothing more.
Update Google Assistant
This update, like many before it, is not distributed through Google Play, but by applying changes to Google servers. For this reason, not everyone can access the updated Google Assistant interface right now. In a few more days, the necessary changes will come into force, giving you the opportunity to take a fresh look at a familiar service that can significantly facilitate your interaction with your smartphone.
Google Assistant is an extremely useful voice assistant. Personally, I have never met a more functional solution that can perform such a wide range of tasks.
