In addition to OnePlus 8, the company will release an inexpensive smartphone

OnePlus is famous for always releasing smartphones that position themselves as “flagship killers”. I have always disliked this phrase, but it is precisely this phrase that characterizes the company’s approach. An approach with high ambitions and a clear desire to show advantages. First, this advantage is the price. OnePlus smartphones are developed roughly the same as the main flagships but are cheaper. Even now, when they have become more expensive than the first generations, they still cost a little less. Now, judging by the leaks, the company decided to revive the smartphone model they had in the first years of its existence. If everything is correct, it means this will become very inexpensive.

What is OnePlus X?

In the early years of the company, OnePlus tried its best to gain public interest. Representatives said the flagship can be released for much less money than competitors. In many ways, the smartphone cost was underestimated and the company worked at a loss to conquer the market. Of course, there was a slight decrease in the cost of production and delivery, but the price of the device was still underestimated.

Users liked this and they also actively participated in the process of finalizing the gadget and its software. So the OnePlus community was formed.

During the first generations of OnePlus, in parallel there was a model that did not claim to be among the flagships but was very interesting. It was called OnePlus X and was released in 2015. It didn’t have such wide distribution since it wasn’t much cheaper than the first and second generation of the flagship OnePlus. Device characteristics weren’t bad, but they certainly weren’t outstanding. At a price of $249, the price wasn’t so bad, but for most users it was just not interesting enough to purchase.

Gradually, the idea of this smartphone faded into the background and the company focused on the release of one single model. Later, the “T” line appeared, and then also an additional version with the prefix Pro. In some ways, it reminds us of the story of Apple, but this is not surprising, because we all understand the OnePlus smartphones were to become the killer. Now again it’s time for the average smartphone. After all, even Apple does not only develop flagships.

When will the OnePlus X or OnePlus Z come out?

The OnePlus budget line should be released this year. At least, according to information received from Max Weinbach. True, the new line will not have the same name it did five years ago, which makes everything much simpler. Why bother users with extra letters and numbers? It’s much easier to give them the usual version of the smartphone with the prefix “Pro” and Lite.

So buyers won’t have any unnecessary questions. They will understand there are three smartphones with a check hierarchy in the lineup. Personally, I highly approve of this approach. It seems to be a lot more logical than framing the endless “Pro”, “Plus”, “Ultra” and so on to name the model. Not all manufacturers want to be associated with the word “Lite”. Even Huawei, who last week rolled out its new Huawei P40 (in three versions), and its Lite model showed little in advancement. Most likely so as to not spoil the authority of the flagship model.

If this is true we have received extra confirmation that in the lineup of this year for the first time there will be three new smartphones. What they will be is not worth discussing in detail now.

It remains to add only one. According to the author of the leak, the model may not be called OnePlus Lite, but One Plus Z. This does not seem logical to me, but the company will decide what to do.

OnePlus 8 or Samsung Galaxy S20?

If the launch presentation is not canceled or postponed due to recent events, we will soon be able to see the very new OnePlus 8. In this case, the choice will be a little more difficult than previous years.

OnePlus smartphones are becoming more expensive every year and their price is gradually approaching that of other flagships in the market. This year it will be about $800 for the top version. In Europe and Russia, this price can go up to $1,000. At the same time, because there are almost no flights now, it will be very difficult to see gray smartphones and gray dealers will not be able to bring down the price.

As a result, we will see a situation in which OnePlus will cost as much as flagships from Samsung. But people are already thinking about buying it. Of course, this smartphone has certain advantages that I really like, but choosing between Samsung and OnePlus, I would prefer the first option, even though I’m not particularly loyal to Samsung.

OnePlus 8 colors

In addition to the leak regarding the release of the budget OnePlus, there was news about the colors in which the new family will be released.

If you believe the news journalists published are really leaks, then this is only a good thing. When choosing a smartphone I adhere to strict colors, but even so I really like it when manufacturers experiment. That’s why I have always respected Huawei and Honor for their gradients.

The colors of OnePlus always seemed boring to me. This year, it looks like they will mend and release the Interstellar Glow color. According to leaked news, it will shimmer between orange, violet and red shades. In some ways, it will be reminiscent of the color “Aura Glow”, which Samsung used in the Galaxy Note 10.

Also, the smartphone will apparently come in green. This is logical, given current trends. In any case, the wait is not long. The presentation should take place in mid-April. What they will bring us only time will tell. We’ll find out soon!
