Now that the coronavirus has shaken the financial situation of many people, leaving them unemployed, not everyone can buy the latest flagship smartphone. Therefore, I offer you my personal top flagships of past years, which have a reasonable price and remain relevant even in 2020.
Should I buy a Pixel 2 XL in 2020?
All the more so, since its price has recently dropped quite dramatically – at least in respect to other models of the Pixel line. Despite that this is the most expensive representative of our list today, as of March 31, 2020, its price ranges between $350-400 – there really is something to pay for, especially if you are a smartphone buff.
Pixel smartphones really have outstanding photo capabilities. They offer the best night mode on the market with Android smartphones, giving a super-smooth digital stabilization and competent post-processing algorithms. The Pixel 2 will no longer receive Android 11, but even regular applications and services are separated from the main OS, so it will be updated for several more years.
Would it not be more logical to buy a Pixel 3a, which costs about the same? In my opinion, no. The point is more memory, which Google equips in the Pixel 2 and 2 XL. Because of this, the smartphone processes information faster and responds to user commands with less delay. As a result, copying, transferring, saving and many other actions will occur faster.
Is Xiaomi Mi 8 good in 2020?
Despite that Xiaomi Mi 8 was released not so long ago, many have already forgotten about it. This is a mistake because this smartphone continues to remain relevant even in 2020, especially since it costs only $255, or even less.
For my personal taste, Xiaomi Mi 8 is far from the most beautiful smartphone, but from a technical point of view, it’s very good. The Snapdragon 845 processor with 6 GB of RAM will allow it to run even the most demanding games and applications from Google Play. I’m especially attracted to the Mi 8 support for hardware facial recognition technology.
Xiaomi has surpassed itself and equipped its flagship with a special sensor system that recognizes the user’s face, unlocking it even faster than the iPhone X. Perhaps this is not as safe as Apple’s since Mi 8 doesn’t have a 3D sensor, but thanks to the infrared emitter, your smartphone will not open to an unauthorized person and recognizes you even in complete darkness.
Ceramic Android Smartphone
I’m already tired of my Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, but I like it so much I’m ready to add it to all the ratings, especially if it meets all the criteria. Xiaomi has already stopped production of this device, so if you are interested in it, buy it now because you might not have another chance!
I like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 primarily because of its sophistication. Still, a smartphone in a ceramic case today is very unique and given the price range of $255-380 even more so. However, with Mi Mix 3, the Chinese clearly did not skimp on development and created almost the entire body of the device from this material, making it my personal favorite. Attractiveness is added by the slider, which makes it possible to occupy the entire front panel with the display and not disfigure it with the camera’s eye, as it’s inside the structure.
However, if you decide to buy Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, take the 5G version. It’s equipped with a Snapdragon 855 processor, not 845 and it has a larger (600 mAh) battery.
Should I buy the Huawei P20?
Huawei P20 is a really cool smartphone that even in 2020 looks very profitable, especially against newer models – not least thanks to Google. Huawei P20 users have access to all the services of the search giant, including Google Play and regular updates. This is one of two smartphones from today’s list that are likely to receive Android 11 updates.
By purchasing this smartphone, you will get not only extensive opportunities for taking pictures, since this is a real camera phone in the truest sense of the word, but also support and perhaps the best system on the market. Huawei has become one of the few who managed to combine all their devices and teach them how to work in tandem with each other. As a result, you can receive calls directly on Huawei or Honor tablets or laptops, access files from the memory of one device using another, and so on. Huawei also has its own voice assistant.
Undoubtedly, the Huawei P20 is inferior to the P20 Pro in photo capabilities. However, you only notice this when shooting professionally and using a tripod. In everyday conditions, when most pictures are taken on the principle of “took out – photographed – removed”, you definitely won’t be dissatisfied.
Cheap smartphone with a 3D camera
I specifically left the Honor View 20, which I use myself, till the end. Still, it’s difficult for me to objectively talk about it, because this is really the only model I would choose today if I had to buy a smartphone again. It not only has powerful internal specifications and a high level of speed, but also boasts a cool camera with lidar, like the new iPad Pro and a 4000 mAh battery as well as, which is very important to me, a fingerprint scanner.
The only thing I don’t like about it is the irregularity in which updates come out. Of course, I understand that in the context of the cold war with Google, Huawei has a hard time, but in my eyes, it doesn’t justify it. Huawei developers could fix firmware bugs on their own. But since View 20 costs about $255, offering in return a better combination of price and features on the market, I advise you to consider it.
