The cheapest smartphones on Snapdragon 855

Where to find the cheapest and also the most productive smartphone on the market in early 2020? The devices on the Snapdragon 865 are not yet on sale, so we will focus on the current Snapdragon 855 flagship solution. This chipset runs on eight Kryo 485 cores with 2.84 GHz clock speed and 7nm process, has Adreno 640 video chip and supports LPDDR4X memory.

In the middle of 2019 Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 855+, its peculiarity was optimization for games and virtual reality. The frequency was increased to 2.96 GHz, which resulted in a 4.2 percent increase in performance. The speed of the graphics chip was increased by 15% by increasing the frequency from 585 MHz to 672.

Of course, the Snapdragon 855+ looks like an interesting solution, but we will consider the usual 855 because it’s easier to find cheap solutions on this chipset.

Lenovo Z5 Pro GT – budget smartphone based on the flagship processor

Lenovo Z5 Pro GT - budget smartphone based on the flagship processor.

Probably the most interesting device is Lenovo Z5 Pro GT. The device runs on a Snapdragon 855 processor, has a 6.39-inch SuperAMOLED screen with FHD resolution, 8/12 GB RAM and 128/512 GB of internal memory, a double main camera (24 MP + 16 MP) and a double front camera (16 MP + 8 MP). The battery in the device is quite modest at 3350 mAh, but it is enough for a full day of use.

So now the most important thing is how much can you buy it for? On Aliexpress with free delivery the phone will cost 200$. Not so long ago it had a discount, thanks to which the phone could be purchased for only 180$. Probably, in the future similar discounts will be repeated.

It is also interesting because it has no cut-outs in the screen due to the slider form factor, which allowed the front modules to be hidden under the case.

The device, in addition to the Snapdragon 855 processor, offers 5G support and is valued at 320$ on Aliexpress. Other advantages include 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory, a 6.39-inch SuperAMOLED display with FHD resolution, a dual main camera (12 MP F/1.8 Dual Pixel PDAF OIS + 12 MP telephoto) and a double front camera (24 MP + 2 MP). The battery is more interesting here than the Lenovo – at 3800 mAh. Not a bad smartphone and quite cheap, given the flagship processor.

The LG G8 ThinQ is a flagship that deserves better

The LG G8 ThinQ is a flagship that deserves better.

On Ebay device can be purchased for 400$ with free international delivery. It offers a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6.1-inch P-OLED display with support for HDR10, DCI-P3 100%, Dolby Vision and Always On Display. The unit is equipped with a triple camera (12 megapixels + 16 megapixels + 12 megapixels), double front on 8 megapixels with TOF depth camera. Battery in the device at 3500 mAh with quick QC 3.0 charging. Technically, it is excellent, looks neat on the outside and the flagship (however, this is the flagship), in addition, the cost is quite small.

Xiaomi Black Shark 2

For 450$ you can buy Xiaomi Black Shark 2. The phone runs on a processor Snapdragon 855, is equipped with a Fast Finger display with a sensitive touchscreen, so the screen response is minimal. It has a 6.39″ AMOLED display, 6/12GB RAM and 256GB of internal memory, a dual camera (48 MP f/1.8 + 12 MP f/2.2), 20 MP front camera. In addition, the battery in Black Shark 2 is better than the above devices, its volume is 4000 mAh. This is primarily a gaming phone, which is not suitable for all users, but if you want to get high performance with 240 Hz touchscreen, this option is not bad.

We wouldn’t go beyond $450, because it’s hard to call such devices cheap even considering their flagship filling. For 500$ you can buy the OnePlus 7 or 7T, for the same money you can order Asus Zenfone 6, for example. You need to rely on which device you like best, because you can save money by buying Lenovo, but you will get the software that is inferior to the Xiaomi shell. And if you give up the OnePlus, you will lose the OnePlus shell, which is smoother and faster than the other solutions. You need to choose the device not only by its processor, and assessing all its advantages, but surely the flagship processor will make itself known even in the cheapest phone, so do not be afraid to consider Lenovo as a good gaming gadget.
